Fiona Clark has become the first recipient of the Lord Provost Volunteering Certificate in recognition of her continued contribution to volunteering within Aberdeen’s communities.
The presentation took place at Aberdeen Central Library, where Fiona was presented with the Bon Accord Award by Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Councillor Dr David Cameron.
Guests at the event included Lady Provost Hazel Cameron, Maggie Hepburn, Chief Executive of ACVO TSI, alongside colleagues from Aberdeen City Libraries. Mike Melvin, Volunteering Services Manager at ACVO TSI, also spoke during the presentation.
Following a long career with Aberdeen City Council, including her role as Service Manager for Libraries & Community Learning, Fiona Clark retired four years ago and has continued supporting Aberdeen’s libraries through volunteering at Aberdeen Central Library.
Using the knowledge and experience developed throughout her career, Fiona now volunteers within the library archives, helping organise historical materials and prepare valuable resources for digitisation and future public access. Her nomination recognised both her continued commitment to volunteering and the important contribution she continues to make in preserving Aberdeen’s local heritage.
The presentation was coordinated by Meghan Collie, Volunteer Coordinator with Aberdeen City Libraries, who played an important role in the development of the Lord Provost Volunteering Certificate. Through her work with volunteers within Aberdeen’s libraries, Meghan recognised the need for a meaningful way to celebrate volunteers of all ages across the city and helped begin the early conversations around creating a new volunteering award for Aberdeen.
Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Councillor Dr David Cameron, said “Fiona’s contribution to Aberdeen’s libraries and communities has continued long beyond her professional career. It is a privilege to present the very first Lord Provost Volunteering Certificate to someone whose commitment, knowledge and generosity continue to make such a positive impact.”
Mike Melvin, Volunteering Services Manager at ACVO TSI, added “Fiona represents exactly what these awards were created to celebrate. Volunteers bring an incredible range of skills, experience and dedication to organisations across Aberdeen, and Fiona’s continued support within Aberdeen Central Library is a wonderful example of the positive impact volunteering can have.”
Speaking following the presentation, Fiona Clark said “It was a real surprise and a great honour to receive the award. Libraries have always been an important part of my life and I’m very grateful to still be able to contribute through volunteering and support the work happening within Aberdeen Central Library.”
The Lord Provost Volunteering Certificate was launched during Volunteers’ Week 2026 to recognise the individuals and volunteer teams making a positive difference across Aberdeen through volunteering. Nominations for both the Bon Accord Award and Team Aberdeen Award are now open for organisations, charities and community groups across the city.
