Volunteers, charities and community groups across Aberdeen are coming together to celebrate the start of Volunteers’ Week 2026 - a national week recognising the incredible contribution volunteers make to communities across the country.

Running from 1st – 7th June, Volunteers’ Week is an opportunity to say thank you to the people who give their time, energy and commitment to support others across the city every day. From local community projects and grassroots groups to charities, events and organisations, volunteering continues to play a vital role in helping Aberdeen thrive.

Throughout the week, Mike Melvin, Volunteering Services Manager at ACVO TSI, will be visiting organisations and volunteer projects across Aberdeen to personally thank volunteers for the difference they make within their communities.

Mike said “Volunteers make a positive impact across Aberdeen every single day, often without expecting recognition in return. Volunteers’ Week is a chance to celebrate that contribution, say thank you and highlight the important role volunteering plays in strengthening communities across the city.”

Volunteers’ Week 2026 also marks the launch of the Lord Provost Volunteering Certificate - a new initiative created to recognise volunteers and volunteer teams making a positive impact across Aberdeen.

Delivered through a partnership between Volunteer Aberdeen and The Lord Provost of Aberdeen, the awards celebrate the people whose commitment, community spirit and dedication help support organisations, causes and communities throughout the city.

Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Councillor Dr David Cameron, said: “Aberdeen is fortunate to have so many people willing to give their time to support others and strengthen communities across the city. Volunteers’ Week is an important opportunity to recognise that contribution and celebrate the individuals and teams helping make a positive difference every day.”

Organisations, charities and community groups across Aberdeen are also being encouraged to use Volunteers’ Week as an opportunity to promote volunteering opportunities, welcome new volunteers and celebrate the people already involved in their work.

Whether you already volunteer or are thinking about getting involved for the first time, Volunteers’ Week is a chance to discover more about volunteering across Aberdeen and the many ways people can make a difference within their communities.
